Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Medical Secretary to join our practice team.
The ideal candidate would have experience of using SystmOne, good sound knowledge of medical terminology, and have worked as a Medical Secretary within the NHS.
You must be accurate, have good communication skills, be a team player, and also be able to work flexibly in the absence of colleagues.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide comprehensive administrative support to GPs and clinical staff, ensuring smooth day-to-day running of the surgery.

Manage patient appointments, including booking, rescheduling, and cancellation via telephone and electronic systems.

Maintain and update patient records accurately and confidentially in line with GDPR and NHS guidelines.

Prepare and type correspondence, referral letters, and reports for clinical and non-clinical purposes.

Receive and direct incoming calls, queries, and messages efficiently, providing excellent customer service to patients and staff.

Organise and coordinate meetings, clinics, and training sessions as required.

Liaise with external agencies, hospitals, and community services regarding patient referrals and information requests.

Ensure confidentiality and data protection policies are strictly adhered to at all times.

Undertake general office duties such as filing, photocopying, and stationery management to support team efficiency.
Efficiently manage and coordinate the diaries of GPs and clinical staff, scheduling appointments, meetings, and clinics to maximise time and resource utilisation while minimising conflicts.
