Job summary

Adelaide and St Levan Surgery are pleased to be offering for the first time an Apprentice Administrator role based at both our St Levan and Adelaide Street sites (Full time to include 20% of the working week studying towards a recognised qualification).

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills and experience by working as a General Practice Admin Apprentice. Apprenticeships give you the opportunity and support to develop new work-based skills in an organisation committed to your professional success.

As an apprentice, you will need to fully commit to the 20% off the job training requirements of the post alongside your normal day to day job. The post holder will complete a course of study related to the requirements of the role at a level appropriate to the successful candidate. Apprentices understand the importance of managing both professional and learning responsibilities.

Working with a great team, you need to be flexible, approachable and tolerant to the challenges of working with a complex patient population in inner city Plymouth. No day is ever the same, here we can and do make a difference but its not always easy!

To obtain a General Practice Admin Qualification (from PMA) and to develop knowledge, skills and understanding within the job description. Working in partnership with PMA (Practice Managers Association) you will attend training one day per week throughout the apprenticeship to attain a City and Guilds Qualification appropriate to staff member entry level. Suitable for school leavers with both GCSEs and with A Levels.

The purpose of this apprenticeship role is for the post holder to learn knowledge, skills and understanding in General Practice Administration whilst supporting the day to day running of Adelaide and St Levan Surgery. And to obtain a General Practice Admin Qualification (from PMA) and to develop knowledge, skills and understanding within the job description below. Main Responsibilities –

Administrative Support/ Secretarial Responsibilities

To ensure administrative and clerical duties within the practice are carried out within the practice guidelines and policies.

To provide general secretarial/ admin support to the GPs, Managing Partner and other staff including word processing and audio typing

Maintain self and team professionalism.

Photocopy and scan any records accordingly.

Develop working knowledge of surgery systems.

Develop knowledge of GP software and Microsoft programmes such as but not limited to Word, Excel, Power point, Publisher, Access.

To receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls, taking messages and dealing with appropriate queries.

To assist the Managing Partner and Operations Manager with all clerical and administrative duties.

To maintain filing and administrative systems so that written or computer information is easily accessible and secure. Specifically, but not limited to the admin, management and reception offices.

Ensure that all regulations with regard to access to medical records are adhered to.

General Staff Duties

Always maintain patient and surgery confidentiality.

Use the support on offer to maximise the benefits to your professional development.

The post holder is required to conform to all Adelaide and St Levan Surgery policies and to attend any training sessions as necessary.
