Job responsibilities

As a more experienced Pharmacist you will provide mentoring, training and development for more junior colleagues.

To ensure implementation of safe and efficient repeat prescribing systems

You will be part of a professional clinical network and will have access to appropriate clinical supervision as outlined in the Network Contract DES guidance where appropriate.

• You will support patients to take their medications to get the best from them, reduce waste and promote self-care.
• In your leadership role you will be supporting further integration of general practice with the wider healthcare teams (including community and hospital pharmacy) to help improve patient outcomes, ensure better access to healthcare and help manage general practice workload.

Health and safety/risk management

The jobholder must comply at all times with the practices Health and Safety policies, in particular by following agreed safe working procedures and reporting incidents using the practices Risk Incident Reporting System.

Patient confidentiality and ensuring dignity and respect of patients

The jobholder should respect patient confidentiality at all times and not divulge patient information unless sanctioned by the requirements of the role. The job holder should at all times treat patients with dignity and respect and actively seek to assure an environment that facilitates this.

To be responsible for ones own behaviour to effectively create a working environment that has a good team spirit, is professional in orientation and has mutual respect amongst colleagues. Establishing and maintaining effective communication and constructive input to areas of service development and systems re-design.

Special working conditions

You may also be asked from time to time to be flexible in your working hours as per the needs of the practice.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

• An appreciation of the nature of primary care prescribing, concepts of rational prescribing and strategies for improving prescribing.

Desirable

• In depth therapeutic and clinical knowledge and understanding the principles of evidence based healthcare.

Qualifications

Essential

• Master of Pharmacy Degree
• GPhC registration

Experience

Desirable

• Minimum of 3-5 years experience working as a Pharmacist within General Practice

Qualities/Attributes

Essential

• Able to obtain, analyse and interpret complex technical information.
• Is able to plan, manage, monitor, advise and review general medicine optimisation issues in core areas for long term conditions.
• Good communication skills: written, verbal and listening
• Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workload
• Trustworthy and an understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality

• Demonstrates accountability for delivering professional expertise and direct service provision.
• Commitment to continuing professional development and training
