Job summary
Dean Cross Surgery is located in Plymstock, Plymouth with 10,200 registered patients. The practice has a Good CQC inspection and has excellent patient feedback, with staff feeling valued and appreciated by our patient group.
The Practice team is led by 3 GP partners who are supported by salaried GPs, an established ANP team, skilled Nursing & HCA and administration team. We have the following professionals working alongside us, Mental Health Nurse, Wellbeing Coach, Social Prescribers, Pharmacists, Advanced Physiotherapist, First Contact Physio and Nursing Home Team.
Our Practice Nurses provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team. The duties will include all tasks normally undertaken by an experienced RGN and in addition any roles agreed between the nurse and the doctors as appropriate, having regard to current training.
We are hoping for a trained General Practice Nurse experienced in chronic disease management but would consider a candidate who is willing to be trained in Asthma, COPD or Diabetes care. Salary will be depending upon experience.
Main duties of the job
Job Responsibilities:
- Asthma and COPD management /Peak Flow Readings/ Spirometry
- Diabetic management
- Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by nursing staff and GPs
- Cytology/ family planning
- Complex and Basic wound care
- Carry out doppler assessment to determine ABPI readings
- Removal of Sutures
- Patient Health Checks
- Travel Vaccinations
- Venepuncture
- Hypertension Management
- Ear syringing
- Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations
- Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
- Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
- Patient referral to community services
- Assist with mentoring , supervision and teaching of junior staff
- Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
- Long Term Conditions
Other tasks will include
- QOF targets
- Checking emergency equipment; fridge temperatures
- Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
- Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
- Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician.
- Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
- Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
- At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate patient records
- A duty to advise senior staff of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
- Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.
