Job summary

Forum Health Centre is a 19,500 patient, CQC 'outstanding' NHS GP practices located in the East of Coventry close to UHCW.

We are based in a modern, award winning surgery building and are fortunate to have a long serving, friendly and experienced practice team.

We have a rare opportunity for a full-time healthcare assistant to join our nursing team.

Main duties of the job

The role will include blood tests and a range of tasks in support of the nursing team including ECGs, injections, blood pressures and dressings.

We are looking for a phlebotomist or healthcare assistant who has completed the NHS care certificate or has an NVQ level 3 in health and social care or equivalent.

Whilst experience is an advantage further training is available and the personal aptitudes and nature of the individual are important to us as we have a great team who all get along extremely well in a supportive environment.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Clinical skills

a. Undertake, record and follow guidelines for the tasks for which you have received appropriate training:

i. Venepuncture (blood tests)

ii. Urinalysis

iii. ECG recording

iv. Blood pressure recording

v. Spirometry recording

vi. Dressings

vii. NHS Health Checks

viii. Long Term Conditions review support, e.g. foot pulse checks and physical measurements

b. Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions

c. Assist in raising awareness of health and well-being, and how it can be promoted

d. Give accurate and appropriate information to patients and groups within own competence

e. Support and monitor patients during procedures

2. Communication

a. Communicate effectively with other team members

b. Communicate effectively with patients and carers, recognising their needs for alternative methods of communication

3. Personal and people development

a. Take responsibility for own development learning and performance, including participating in supervision

b. Take responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal development

c. Work with management on any new training requirements

d. Demonstrate skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work

4. Service Improvement

a. Be aware of and, if appropriate, assist in current clinical audit

b. Work with colleagues in the team on the development of current and new services and other initiatives

c. Deal with requests from patients and other clinical staff for health information leaflets

d. Ensure GPs rooms and clinical treatment rooms are clean and well stocked

5. Quality

a. Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk in the care of patients

b. Ensure own actions are consistent with clinical governance systems

c. Practice in accordance with agreed standards of care

d. Enable patients to access appropriate professionals in your team and beyond

e. Ensure stock items under your control are ordered and available in the treatment and consulting rooms

f. Know how clinical governance affects the HCA role and bring to the attention of more senior staff any specific risk situation

g. Know the practices policies in this respect, especially the whistle-blowing policy - available in the staff handbook

h. Be able to manage your own time effectively
