Job summary

Cannock Road Medical Practice & Essington Medical Centre has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic HCA to join our extensive friendly practice team.

We are seeking a team player with a flexible and committed attitude to work.

The HCA will assist in delivering treatment, preventative care, patient education and health promotion.

Main duties of the job

Working under direct supervision of the Lead nurse and GP's and within strict accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols. The HCA will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery clinical care.

Duties are varied, including phlebotomy, ECG's, Injections (B12 / Influenza / Pneumonia etc), blood pressure checks, NHS Heath checks and other elements.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities: Working under direct supervision of the Lead nurse and GPs and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of clinical care.

1. Nursing

  • New patient health checks
  • BP monitoring
  • 24 hour BP monitoring
  • Urinalysis/pregnancy testing
  • Phlebotomy
  • NHS Health checks
  • Administer vaccinations under PSD
  • Provide lifestyle advice to patients making any necessary referrals within the Practice
  • Weight monitoring
  • Ensure specimens are labelled and bagged ready for collection with the necessary paperwork completed
  • Restocking/maintenance of equipment and stock rotation
  • Restocking of clinical areas and consulting rooms
  • Assisting in minor surgery and sexual health clinics
  • ECG recording
  • Chaperoning duties
  • Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording

2. Administration and professional responsibilities

Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the Practice team

Ensure accurate of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes

Ensure the clinical computer system is kept up to date with accurate details recorded

Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the Practice

Attend and participate in Practice meetings as required

Restocking and maintenance of clinical areas and consulting rooms

To assist in seasonal and special projects as requested e.g. flu campaign

Ordering and display of Health Promotion materials

  • Working to the protocols and procedures of the practice
  • Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance

Any other delegated duties considered appropriate to the post
