Job summary

Parcliffe Medical Centre is an innovative and forward thinking Practice led by our Partnership (4 GPs). Located in purpose built premises within St Annes Health Centre, we serve and cover a local population of approximately 12,000 patients, in the seaside town of St Annes along the Fylde Coast; we are minutes away from the sea front, with direct links to the M55 & M6.

We are keen to recruit and welcome applications from an experienced Phlebotomist, who would like to join our friendly, professional, caring team who are passionate about providing safe and effective care to our patient population.

We have a full time opportunity available working 37.5 hours per week ideally over 5 days, however a job share may also be considered.

Main duties of the job

Our Phlebotomist would be expected to:

  • work under the direct supervision of the senior nursing team and directly in accordance with Practice specific guidelines
  • provide a high quality care service based on the needs of the Practice population which includes performing of venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients
  • strive to improve standards of care and be involved in identifying practice population needs, supporting the contractual, local and national requirements or specifications as required within the Practice business and development plan.

Greet patients, introduce yourself and confirm patient demographics

Explanation of procedures and obtaining of consent for procedures during consultation

Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with training and procedures

Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers

Ensure accurate, legible labelling if all samples to confirm patient identity

Checking patient identification against requests

Recording of the collection of blood sample in patient records in accordance with practice processes

Ensure that samples are organised for dispatch to the appropriate laboratories in a timely manner

Ensure anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff as soon as possible

Notify the GP/Nurse of any significant patient issues

Liaise with and assist members of the administrative team as necessary

Act as a chaperone where required

Supporting the Clinical team in any clinical tasks as trained to do so

  • Basic literacy skills

Experience

  • Recent experience of Phlebotomy practice and competent in the carry out of phlebotomy procedures
  • Experience of robust record keeping of highly confidential information

  • Primary Care experience ideally within General Practice
