Job summary

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Reception Navigator to work within our medical practice in Churchdown.

The practice has moved into a brand new purpose built surgery in March 2018. Our friendly team is expanding and we offer a stimulating, caring and professional environment in which to work.

Main duties of the job

Our reception team is the first point of contact for patients. We are looking for a caring person with an excellent telephone manner and good communication skills. You will be able to help support and signpost patients appropriately. We have a large reception team and are looking for a supportive team player, someone who likes a busy working environment and can be flexible and open to change. No two days are the same and a good sense of humour helps.

About us

We have a dynamic team consisting of 8 partners (8 GPs and our Pharmacist Practitioner) and4 salaried GPs, together with 3 other ANPs, a full complement of nurses, HCAs, Social Prescribing Link Workers, Frailty Team and very active involvement with our local Primary Care Network. Our work is made possible by support from our dedicated management, reception and administration teams. We are a training practice for medical students, GPs in training, student nurses and post-graduate pharmacists.

Job responsibilities

Salary: £9.21 - £9.89 per hour dependent upon experience.

Duties include:-

Welcome patients attending for appointments and any other visitors to the practice, ensuring a professional and efficient reception service is provided and respecting patient confidentiality at all times.

Manage face to face contacts with patients effectively signposting patients to the appropriate healthcare professional, administrator, secretary or external agency depending on the presenting request.

Answer incoming phone calls, dealing with the callers requests, signposting them appropriately to a member of our healthcare team or other agencies using eConsult navigation software.

Ensure all calls are answered promptly and managed in a supportive and professional manner.

Initiating contact with, and responding to, requests from patients, other members of the practice team and other healthcare professionals.

Deal with all general enquiries, explaining procedures where necessary.

Managing patient requests submitted on-line via eConsult or the practice website Footfall option and navigating the requests as appropriate.

Handling repeat prescription requests.

Assist patients to register for access to on-line services.

Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and temporary residents, ensuring relevant forms are completed and procedures are completed.

Process patients change of address computer data entry and process for informing admin.

Entering requests for home visits onto the visit list, ensuring to carefully record all the relevant details and referring to the GP when necessary. Print off home visit summary sheets.

Ensure that all new patients are registered onto the computer system promptly and accurately and facilitating patient deduction administration as appropriate.

Handle specimens as per practice protocol.

To have knowledge of all practice procedures and protocols.

Check e-mails and administrative tasks for reception on a regular daily basis.

An ability to use a computer is essential to facilitate using our clinical system, eConsult, Footfall website and AccuRx patient messaging service. All necessary training will be provided.

Be responsible for processing and distributing incoming and outgoing mail.

Be responsible for keeping own workspace and the reception area tidy and ensuring all files, work surfaces and cupboards are kept in order.
