We are looking for a HCA/AP to join our busy practice and team. The successful candidate will join a high achieving practice who's list size continues to grow due to our popularity in the local area.
The successful candidate will join the practice at an exciting time as we are moving to new built premises in early 2022.
Main duties of the job
The main duties will involve consulting with patients, stock control / cleaning duties and assisting the clinical team with chaperoning etc.
The working hours will be 37.5 per week over five days as follows:
Monday 8am-4pm, Tuesday 12pm-8pm, Wednesday 10am-6pm, Thursday 12pm-8pm, Friday 8am-4pm (with 30 minutes unpaid lunch break).
About us
Our practice currently has 10,700 patients with a list size that continues to grow. Our clinical team consists of two GP partners, four salaried GPs, a long term locum GP, one ANP and three practice nurses. We also have a team of nineteen administrative staff which includes a Practice Business Manager, Assistant Practice Manager, Reception Manager, Receptionists, Administrators and Secretaries.

Summary:
To participate fully in the operation of nursing support services
at Whittle Surgery. Working strictly in accordance with specific practice
guidelines and protocols, the HCA/AP will assist the clinical team in the care
of patients to include treatment, preventative care, screening and patient
education. The HCA/AP would be working under the direct supervision of the
nursing team. The ideal candidate should have experience working within the
National Health Service and have a keen interest in learning and developing
their skills further. Qualifications and experience in delivering clinical care
with the primary health care environment is desirable.
General
Duties:
- To work as a
supervised member of the healthcare team, performing delegated nursing
duties through adherence to practice protocols
- Maintain
excellent attendance, punctuality, personal appearance and hygiene
- Establish and
maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general
public
- To ensure that
patients fully understand any procedure to be carried out on them, and
that appropriate consent is obtained and documented.
- Attend and
participate in practice meetings as required
- Support the GP/
nurse with chaperoning duties

principles of infection control are adhered to
- To carry any
additional duties as reasonably requested by the practice
General
Clinical/ Healthcare Duties:
- To carry out new
patient health checks according to the practice protocol
- To perform
venepuncture as required
- Measure and
record the height, weight, and BMI of patients
- Perform ECGs in
accordance with the practice protocol
- Take blood
pressures and follow the practice hypertension protocol
- To carry out yypertension,
CKD, rheumatoid arthritis annual reviews using templates
- Give lifestyle
advice (including diet, weight and exercise) making any necessary
referrals to local support services as required
- Support the
practice with health promotion and education activities
- To carry out
NHS Health Checks, as determined by the health authority protocol.
- To carry out Over
75 NHS Health Checks, as determined by the health authority protocol.
- To issue blood
pressure monitors in accordance with practice policy
- To carry out
clinical cleaning duties and re-stocking as required
- To carry out
urinalysis of urine samples for in house testing in accordance with
practice protocols
- To carry out
spirometry in accordance with practice policy
- Diabetic foot
checks in accordance with practice policy
- Dementia
screening in accordance with practice policy
- Clinical
administration at the request of the GPs or team leaders
- Complete home
visits as necessary
Injections
& Immunisations:
- To document and
administer influenza, pneumococcal and shingles vaccinations according to
a PSD
- To document and
administer B12 injections according to a PSD
Equipment
& Ordering:
- Responsible for
ensuring that vaccine fridge temperatures are recorded daily and any
anomalies are reported to the Practice/Business Manager
- To understand
and apply the principles of the Cold Chain.
- Responsible for
ensuring treatment rooms are stocked with appropriate quantities of
supplies
- Responsible for re-stocking
and ordering clinical stock
- Responsible for routine drug checks and re-order drugs as
necessary
- Complete weekly
checks of the emergency equipment and drugs
