Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Dispenser to join our busy dispensary team that delivers a high level of customer service and patient care to our dispensing patients.

You will assist in the smooth running of services such as dispensing and prescription management.

Duty patterns are variable but the practice core hours are from 7.45-6.30pm Monday to Friday.

The ideal candidate should hold a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in Dispensing at level 2 or equivalent. Experience with monitored dose systems and A.C.T would be an advantage.

Experience of reception duties and a professional and caring personality. Training will be provided however the successful applicant will need to be competent in using a computer and enjoy working as part as a busy team.

Main duties of the job

You must be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to prioritise workload and to be able work independently whilst integrating with the existing dispensary team.

A flexible, professional and enthusiastic approach is essential along with a desire to deliver an excellent service to our patients.

System1 Knowledge preferred however training will be provided.

About us

The Surgery is located in the town of Leiston, on the Suffolk Coast. We have a branch surgery in the nearby village of Yoxford. The practice looks after approximately 9200 patients with high patient satisfaction ratings and an ever- increasing practice list size.

The Leiston Surgery boasts a friendly and supportive atmosphere, creating a strong team spirit. The five GP partners all have special interests and actively encourage the clinical team to develop their own skills. The Clinical Team currently consists of a Physician Associate, two Practice Nurses, three Health Care Assistants, a Paramedic Practitioner, Clinical Pharmacist, Social Prescribing Team, Physiotherapists and a Mental Health Link Worker.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will project a positive and friendly image to dispensary patients and other visitors and deal with queries in a professional, courteous and efficient way.

Assist in the preparation, dispensing and sale of prescriptions and assist with stock control, ordering and re-stocking of the dispensary.

Re-authorisation of medication once trained.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Issuing stock items and prepared prescriptions

Collection of prescription charges/checking patient exemption statements

Operation of efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the dispensary with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage

Ensuring that drugs are received and stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the manufacturers instructions

Ensuring that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and maintaining the temperature control record/logbook

Cleaning work surfaces and shelving on a regular basis and ensuring that that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and kept in good working order.

Date checking stock

Maintaining full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions.

Undertaking other reasonable duties within the framework of the post as directed by the managing dispenser.

Ordering and unpacking drugs and dressings.

Dispensing and checking repeat prescriptions and prescriptions.

Taking orders for repeats

Using the computer to keep records up to date.

Checking with GPs or in patient records if concerned about the appropriateness of requests for medication.

Dealing with queries from patients regarding their prescriptions.

Ordering drugs using the modem link to the wholesalers.

Some reception work as required as part of the dispensing process.

Handling controlled drugs (and keeping register).

Handling prescription money and operating/balancing the till.

Assisting when required to meet targets in relation to dispensing doctors scheme

Assisting in stock checks

Providing cover for annual leave/sickness.
