Job summary

An old town house close to the centre of Guildford offering face to face appointments along with telephone consultations.

We have 3 full-time partners supported by 3 salaried GP's, one of the salaried GP's shall soon be moving out of the area and we find that we are looking to replace 6 sessions.

A full day surgery of 2 sessions consists of 27, 15 minute appointments, home visits are very rarely requested however time is allocated to each GP for any patients that they feel need to be seen at home.

The GP's are supported by 2 full-time and 1 part-time PN and 2 HCA's.

There is a strong supportive admin team

The surgery is open from 7.30 a.m. until 6.30 p.m. with extended hours on a Monday evening covered by one of the partners and practice nurses until 7.30 p.m. we only cover Saturday clinics during the flu immunisation campaign

Main duties of the job

Seeing patients for routine medical issues, emergency situations and covering a duty doctor day every Friday.

Issuing, authorising and repeating medication.

Patient referrals

Viewing and completing patient laboratory results

Attending regular clinical meetings

About us

Austen Road team are friendly and welcoming, with a list of appreciative patients. Currently a list size of 8600 patients which are mainly aged 30 and 60 years.

All staff are covered by Health Assured, a confidential support for health and well being who offer counselling for various issues, healthy living education etc.

Everyone gets to enjoy their birthday by receiving a day off every year on the day or during the month of birthday

The building is an old town house but has recently had building work to develop new admin and clinical rooms

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

  • In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and un-diagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
  • Providing counselling and health education
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collecting data for audit purposes
  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
  • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
  • In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
