TITLE: DERMATOLOGY
SPECIALIST NURSE
HOURS OF WORK: Various shifts to be covered; Hours range
from 8.30am 5.30pm Monday to Friday and Saturday
MAIN PURPOSE OF POST
To support the
care given by other professionals within the Solihealth team, in the Dermatology
Service SCSS.
Perform skin examinations
Evaluating patients condition
Recording patients medical history and lab results
Explaining test results to patients
Assist Doctor with minor operations in pre and
post-operative care
Listen to patients concerns so they can communicate them
to a Doctor accurately
Observe how a patient reacts to a treatment
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.
Clinical nursing practices for our Dermatology Service including:
assessment, screening, management and health promotion in participation with
the general medical practitioners, or independently via agreed Solihealth protocols.
2.
Provide expert professional advice to others across the locality within
agreed guidelines and protocols, including medical colleagues and other
professional groups when required.
3.
Perform comprehensive specialist assessment of patients, plan, treat and
evaluate care within agreed guidelines and protocols according to
evidence-based practice and changing health needs.
4.
Communicate specialist information to medical colleagues and others.
Refer patients to appropriate clinicians, in the locality or externally, within
agreed guidelines and protocols, according to assessment of patient need and
evidence based decision.
5.
Prioritise patient care, supervising and allocating own workload,
monitoring and evaluating effectiveness of care, including discharge of patients,
or referring on, within agreed guidelines and protocols.
6.
Perform specialist clinical skills in the treatment and overall
management of patient care, including requesting and interpreting
investigations, within agreed guidelines and protocols. To develop and fully
utilise clinical assessment and referral skills. This includes the expanded
role and responsibilities of the nurse within the Scope of Professional
Practice. Interpret information and make a reasoned assessment of patients
short term and/ or long term needs and risk in relation to health and
wellbeing.
7.
Provide a comprehensive specialist service, accepting accountability and
responsibility for the management and effectiveness of the service on a
day-to-day basis. Provide Nurse Led clinics relating to the management of
chronic dermatoses and drug monitoring. Competently implement treatment
regimens for the patient group including acting as a competent independent
and/or supplementary prescriber.
8.
Have good IT skills and ability
to use the computer systems and good record keeping.

CONFIDENTIALITY
In the
course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather,
sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so
in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their
privacy and act appropriately
In
the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder
may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their
carers, Solihealth staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have
access to information relating to the practice as a business organisation. All
such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential.
Information relating to
patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the
practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with
Solihealth policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the
protection of personal and sensitive data.
