Job summary

Rosemary Medical Centre are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant to join our team to cover 20 hours per week over 3 days.

Previous experience of working as an HCA in a GP setting would be desirable but not essential.

The post holder will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work under indirect supervision of the practice nurse team and will be accountable to the Nurse Manager for the actions in undertaking delegated work, yet still demonstrating a degree of initiative. You will also provide support for other members of the primary health care team and contribute towards the coordination of team duties and administration.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes

  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately

  • Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

  • Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required

  • Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics

  • Carry out BMI checks as directed

  • Act as a chaperone as required

  • Undertake venepuncture

  • Urinalysis

  • Carry out ECGs as requested

  • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

  • Provide support during Gynae Clinics as required

  • Support Infection Control Lead Nurse with IPC audits/administration

  • Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

  • Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely and temperatures checked in accordance with extant guidance

  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policy

  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
  • To assist in seasonal and special projects as required e.g. flu and pneumo campaigns
  • Being actively involved with achievement of QOF targets
  • Being actively involved with working within infection control recommendations

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Healthcare Assistant may be requested to:

a. Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead

b. Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care

c. Support and participate in shared learning within the organisation

d. Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota

  • GCSE Maths & English (C or above)
  • Evidence of personal and professional development

Desirable

  • Healthcare qualification (level 2 or 3) or working towards gaining equivalent level.
  • Previous completion of the HCA Care Certificate.
  • Phlebotomy Certificate
  • Vaccination Certificate
