As dispensary manager you will be responsible for all medications dispensed by the Wadebridge and Camel Estuary Practice dispensary. Ensuring the service is quick, efficient and accurate. Ensuring there is an effective financial control within the dispensary.

Main duties of the job

NVQ2 in Dispensing is essential for this role as are experience of leading a team of dispensary staff, the ability to work within a team efficiently and effectively and NHS experience within a GP practice

Job description

Job responsibilities

Primary key responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the dispensary manager. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

a. To be responsible for planning and allocating work for all dispensary staff

b. To oversee all dispensing matters within the practice, checking colleagues dispensing as required

c. To dispense prescriptions for patients

d. To collect prescription charges from patients, cash up and balance monies received

e. To cross reference number and value of prescription charges against statements, ensuring accuracy

f. To effectively coordinate the requests for repeat prescriptions via telephone, email, online and over the counter

g. To ensure requests for repeat prescriptions are processed within a 48-hour timeframe

h. To manage the return of medicines from patients

i. To deal with uncollected medication in accordance with current policy

j. To effectively manage stock levels within the dispensary, ensuring adequate levels are held, minimising wastage and expenditure

k. To promote a safe and effective working environment, conforming to legislation, ensuring drugs are stored appropriately, within temperature parameters and securely

l. To effectively manage the cold chain process, ensuring all staff are aware of the requirement to accurately record temperatures and store items appropriately

m. To conduct stock-takes in accordance with guidance

n. To process invoices for payment, liaising with the practice manager as required

o. To assist with QOF targets

p. To be responsible for the effective line management, appraisal and development of dispensary staff

q. Facilitate dispenser training with drug reps

r. To complete all necessary components of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme (DSQS)

s. Line manage the dispensary staff in accordance with current practice policy

t. Liaise with the Primary Care Network to ensure all prescribing incentive work is completed

u. To be responsible for Health and Safety and Fire Safety within the practice

v. Liaise with cleaning company to ensure standards are maintained

w. Order any items the nursing team may require

x. Organise bi-monthly practice lunches with drug reps
