Our new Head of Patient Care will be responsible for the operational management of our clinical services designing services, supporting and developing our clinicians, ensuring quality and safety and making the best use of our resources. Alongside our CEO and Senior Management Team, you will also play a key leadership role.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced manager with a track record of working at senior level and of leading multidisciplinary teams. Ideally, you will have experience of general practice, possibly as a Practice Manager or as a clinician yourself but the skills we are seeking could also come from an alternative career path. Above all, you must be focused on delivering outstanding clinical care for our patients. You will bring a wide range of knowledge and skills to the role and be confident making decisions, leading change and effectively managing a clinical service.

You will need energy, drive and resilience as well as the ability to deliver under pressure. You will be proactive rather than reactive and constantly looking for ways to empower and develop your team.

About us

We are a large rural practice with over 35,000 patients. As a single-practice Primary Care Network, we have a wonderful opportunity to transform care for our patients. We operate from 7 locations across Holderness and this role will involve regular travel between all our sites. Our hard-working and dedicated team includes 23 GPs, an extensive multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals and a great patient services team.

Leadership:

  • As part of the Senior Management Team, take responsibility for shaping the future of Holderness Health, setting out clear plans and goals
  • Represent Holderness Health consistently and professionally, raising your own profile and that of the organisation within the local health community
  • Continuously review the responsibilities of the department and make bold decisions and recommendations when necessary

Communication:

  • Clearly communicate the organisations goals and values internally and externally
  • Develop and maintain an effective network of contacts within the local health economy
  • Provide regular information and updates to staff relating to patient care and clinical management e.g. via website updates, newsletter etc.
  • Represent Holderness Health in external meetings and forums

Financial & Business Information:

  • Work with the Head of Finance & Information to set the annual departmental budget
  • Control the departmental budget and report on current and future costs and initiatives
  • Develop and maintain departmental performance indicators
  • Collect, collate and report on a range of data relating to population health and patient care
  • Translate key data into a quality and safety focused patient care strategy, working with the Management Board and Senior Management Team and influencing them on the best course of action

Service Design:

  • Lead the design and redesign of how the practice delivers patient care in response to internal or external factors
  • Use all sources of available data to identify new ways of working, building a case for new services or pathway development
  • Work closely with the Network Clinical Directors to design and implement more integrated services to improve access and quality for patients

Managing People:

  • Provide direct line management to the teams within your department
  • Monitor professional registration status and ensure renewal dates are adhered to by all staff

Quality & Safety:

  • Maintain practice focus on quality and safety, establishing an open and learning culture
  • Work closely with the Head of Patient Services to ensure practice compliance with all quality and safety requirements
  • Ensure all clinical teams are aware of and adhering to data quality requirements for clinical record-keeping
  • Record and investigate serious incidents
  • Identify actions or service changes required as a result of serious incidents and disseminate learning
  • Complete service audits on a planned cycle, implement changes as required, and disseminate learning
  • Maintain knowledge of CQC inspection regime and work closely with the Head of Patient Services to ensure the practice performs well against all Key Lines of Enquiry

Dispensary:

  • Take overall responsibility for the practices dispensary service
  • Work closely with Dispensary Team leaders to provide an patient-focused, efficient and financially viable dispensary service

Safeguarding:

  • Be responsible for and committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults, children and young people and for ensuring that they are protected from harm
  • Identify and act upon safeguarding concerns in relation to patients and staff

Legal, Regulatory & Contractual Requirements and Good Practice:
