Job summary
We are looking to recruit a phlebotomist and are seeking an enthusiastic, flexible and well motivated individual for 16 - 20 hours per week, working over 4-5 mornings.
The candidate will ideally have undertaken phlebotomy training, however, training will be provided for the right candidate.
This role could be a developmental role leading to training as a Nurse Associate (Band 4) with increased hours of up to 30 hours per week.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients as the result of a referral from a GP, advanced practitioner or practice nurse.
You will need to navigate the patient record to print blood labels and record when samples are taken.

We are a friendly and supportive, training general practice situated in the centre of South Molton. We have 9 GP partners, one Pharmacist partner and 3 salaried GPs. We have a team of nursing staff, advanced practitioners, administrative and cleaning staff on site.

Work under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager and strictly in accordance with practice guidelines and protocols obtain blood samples from patients:
- Ensure
that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirm their
agreement to collect a blood sample
- Collect
sample of blood in accordance with training and procedures
- Ensure
samples are stored in appropriate containers
- Ensure
accurate and legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity
- Check
patient identification against GP / Nurse request and confirm with patient whenever
possible
- Record
collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice
procedure
- Ensure
samples are despatched to the appropriate laboratory in a timely fashion
- Ensure
anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff
- Notify
GP / nurse of any significant patient issues
- Liaising
with and assisting members of the reception and admin team
