Job summary
Horizon Healthcare are looking for an experienced Health Care
Assistant who has previous GP surgery experience to join their nursing team. This is a part time role of 22.5 hours per
week to be worked over three days; Monday, Wednesday and Friday, a minimum of
one late shift (10:30 18:30) would be required.
Main duties of the job
Working under the direct supervision of the Practice Nurses
and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the
Health Care Assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision
and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care. To be able to work at
the main and branch surgery sites.

The following are the core responsibilities of the health care assistant. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
- Wound care / Dressings / Management
- Clip and suture removals
- NHS health checks
- Blood pressure checks
- Venepuncture
- Learning disability reviews
- ECGs
- Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate
- Lifestyle advice
- Flu / pneumonia / shingles injections
- B12 injections
- Fitting and removing of 24-hour BP monitor
- Re-stocking of consulting rooms, storage cupboards, etc.
- Stock ordering
- Vaccine / cold chain storage monitoring and recording
- Maintain, clean and check function of appropriate equipment used within the surgery
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the health care assistant may be requested to:
- Apply Practice policies, standards and guidance
- Follow practice protocols with referral to a GP as appropriate
- Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work
- Expected to undertake relevant clinical audits e.g. immunisations.
- Participate in LES's and DES's at the practice where applicable.
