Main duties of the job
As a Medical Receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for patients, providing professional and courteous assistance both in person and over the phone. Your key responsibilities include scheduling appointments, managing communications, maintaining confidentiality, and liaising between departments with discretion. You will handle general queries, signposting patients, support clinical staff as a trained chaperone, and communicate medical results under clinical supervision.

- Welcome and assist patients at the front desk, managing enquiries and appointment arrivals.
- Schedule, amend, and cancel appointments, both face-to-face and over the phone.
- Support GPs and the nursing team with requests and administrative tasks.
- Handle incoming calls, signpost patients (after training), and manage messages.
- Address general queries and complaints following practice protocols.
- Prepare surgery lists, manage patient notes, and file documentation.
- Act as a chaperone for clinical staff (after training).
- Process prescriptions, including email and online requests (after training).
- Liaise with patients, hospitals, and other healthcare professionals as needed.
- Manage payments for medical services and update records accordingly.
- Ensure building security, including locking up and setting alarms as required.
- Undertake additional tasks appropriate to the role.
