Job summary

A medical receptionist is the primary representative of our GP Practice and is responsible for the efficient administration of all related processes in order to support the work of the clinical team.

Your role will be based across the two sites of Heaton Group Health, namely Heaton Medical Centre and Dalefield Surgery. You may be required to work flexibly between these sites as service needs dictate.

The ideal candidate will enjoy the challenge of working in a busy GP practice and will project a positive, friendly image when dealing with patients at the surgery and on the phone.

Working pattern

Monday 12.30pm - 6.30pm

Tuesday 8am - 4pm

Wednesday 12.30pm - 6.30pm

Thursday 8am - 4pm

Friday 8am - 4pm

Total Hours: 34.5

Main duties of the job

Reception/Admin Duties:

  • General medical reception duties such as greeting patients, booking appointments and dealing with queries
  • Answering phone calls
  • Actioning tasks received from clinical staff
  • Administrative and clerical support to clinical and management team
  • Monitor and respond to emails on the generic practice account
  • Liaise with external parties such as secondary care, community teams and care homes
  • Direct patients to appropriate services
  • Provide general assistance to the Practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone
  • Dealing with all requests in an efficient and courteous manner.
  • Screening enquiries for the doctors and medical staff
  • Registering new patients at the surgery
  • Explaining the practice procedures to new patients
  • Accurately collecting information and personal details about patients
  • Updating the surgeries computer system with appointments and personal details
  • Receiving urine and blood samples and sending them off to hospital laboratories
  • Chasing up appointments for patients with hospitals or with other healthcare professionals
  • Contacting patients to pass on test results /messages to patients as instructed by medical professionals
  • Arranging prescriptions for patients
  • Maintaining a clean reception and waiting area to show a professional image
  • Writing letters and correspondence on behalf of the surgery and medical staff
  • Covering colleagues during times of annual leave

About us

Heaton Medical Centre & Dalefield Surgery are part of the Chorley Roads network and have a combined practice size of approximately 19,000 patients. There are 8 partners 4 salaried GPs, 2 ACPs and 2 Paramedics. We have an experienced nursing team and excellent administration team. We are forward thinking and have a number of ARRS staff including Mental Health Practitioner, MSK, Paramedic, Pharmacists, Social Prescribers, Dietician and Care Co-Ordinators
