Job summary

An exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, patient focused individual. We are looking for a Junior Health Care Assistant to join our expanding nursing team, in a friendly but busy practice located in our rural, yet modern practice. This is a new post and you will join an existing team comprising of 2 Practice Nurses, Senior Healthcare Assistant and Phlebotomist. The post is being advertised at 30 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

Main duties of the job

Duties are varied and include general nursing tasks such as new patient health checks, NHS health checks, urine analysis, ECGs BP readings, chaperoning and taking blood as well as ordering medical supplies and re-stocking consulting rooms. You will also assist in Women's Health Clinics and Minor Ops clinics.

We are a friendly, busy, GP led Practice situated in a delightful village just off the A1. We are fortunate enough to enjoy easy access to Newark, Grantham, Nottingham and Lincoln and have some excellent local facilities including schools and transport links to London nearby.

Our team consists of 3 Partners, 3 Salaried GPs, 2 Practice Nurses, an HCA, a Phlebotomist, Care Coordinator, MSK Practitioner and Clinical Pharmacists. They are supported by a dedicated team of Senior Management, Reception, Admin and Dispensary staff. Working together we strive to provide our local community with the highest level of patient centred care which is at the heart of everything we do.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Support the practice nursing team with health promotion programmes
  • Undertake new patient health checks
  • Undertake NHS Health checks as required
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
  • Carry out BMI checks as directed
  • Act as a chaperone as required
  • Venepuncture
  • Carry out ECGs as requested
  • Ensure specimens are tested where necessary, recorded and ready for onward transportation
  • Undertake D-Dimer testing as required as well as quarterly NEQAS quality checks
  • Provide support during minor operations clinics as required
  • Provide support during Womens Health clinics as required
  • Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
  • Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
  • Ensure fridge checks are undertaken in accordance with the duty rota
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
  • Carry out basic Enhanced Services/QOF searches for invitation purposes

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the post holder may be required to:

  • Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead
  • Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
  • Support and participate in shared learning within the practice

  • Healthcare qualification (level 3)

Desirable

  • Phlebotomy certification
  • Previous completion of the HCA Care Certificate (as per CQC Nigels Surgery No 57
