Job summary

We are looking to recruit a second Dispensary Counter Assistant at Long Bennington Medical Centre, a rural practice on the borders of Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.

We have a busy Dispensary providing dispensing services to approximately 88% of our patients. Our team work closely with both Drs and Clinical Pharmacists ensuring that patient needs are met with efficiency and in a timely manner.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual with excellent customer service skills to work 20-25 hours per week, Monday - Friday afternoons on a permanent contract.

The successful candidate will provide support to the Dispensary Manager, Dispensers and Doctors to ensure the efficient and effective provision of the full range of dispensing services to the patients of the Practice, ensuring a high-level of service is delivered at all times.

Ideally candidates will have experience of working with SystmOne and General Practice, however full training can be provided.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide support to the Dispensary Manager, Dispensers and Doctors to ensure the efficient and effective provision of the full range of dispensing services to the patients of the Practice, ensuring a high-level of service is delivered at all times.

We are a growing, GP led, Dispensing practice based in a rural location on the borders of Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.  We are friendly team comprising of 6 GPs, 2 Practice Nurses, Clinical Pharmacists, Dispensers, HCA's, MSK Practitioner and Care Coordinator who are superbly supported by our Reception and Administration teams. We firmly believe that it takes the entire team to make the Practice what it is and our philosophy is very much that patient centered care is at the heart of everything we do. Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the dispensary assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

· To undertake all duties in line with the training and instruction provided by the Dispensary Manager and Doctors

· Acting as the focal point for patients, answering the dispensary phone and hatch

· Issuing NHS prescriptions and dispensed medication directly to patients

· Collecting prescription charges in accordance with dispensary protocol and checking patient exemption statements

· Cash handling

· Maintaining stock levels within the dispensary, liaising with the dispensary manager to facilitate reordering

· Receiving and storing supplies in accordance with current policy, ensuring the cold chain is maintained where applicable

· Checking and recording of dispensary supplies received via SystmOne stock control

· Safe disposal of returned and / or out of date medicines

· Administration for personally administered prescriptions

· Checking and coding of supplier (AAH and Alliance Healthcare) statements via electronic systems

· Supporting the processing of repeat prescriptions, ensuring a 48-hour turnaround is achieved

· Process prescription requests via email, phone, face-to-face and online

· Assisting the Dispensary Manager in the preparation of monthly returns

· Maintaining a clean and safe working environment at all times

· Maintain accurate records at all times, read coding entries appropriately

· To ensure adequate dispensary stock levels and dispensary stationery and assist in maintaining an effective stock rotation and management system

· Participate in overtime rota when required to cover holidays and sickness

Secondary Responsibilities

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the dispensary assistant may be requested to:

· Partake in audit as directed by the audit lead

· Remain current with the latest guidance ensuring the dispensary conforms to NICE, CQC etc. guidance

· Maintaining effective security of the dispensary at all times

· Participate in staff, departmental and Practice meetings as well as individual performance reviews

· Recognise and utilise effective communication with other Practice team members, patients, their carers and visitors.

· Respect and maintain patient confidentiality, privacy and dignity at all times

· Assist in maintaining the requirements and standard of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme (DSQS)

· Any other reasonable duties which may be required from time-to-time
