Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and courteous individual to join our friendly clinical team at Long Bennington Medical Centre. We are a rural GP led Practice supporting around 6000 patients over an area covering around 25 villages with borders in Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire. We are looking for someone on a permanent contract working part-time providing Phlebotomy services to our patients. Ideally the successful applicant will have previous experience however training will be provided to the right candidate to help them develop their skills. The post will be on a part-time basis working 12-15 hours per week, three days a week (ideally Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday due to room availability) with at least two 0800 am starts per week

The purpose of the role is to:
Obtain patient consent for the collection of a blood sample
Perfom venepunture in accordance with practice protocols
Maintain accurate patient records on SystmOne
Correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
Ensure samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
Maintain an effective liaison with the laboratory staff at Grantham District Hospital
Work collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters
Ensure phlebotomy stock is checked regularly and ordered where needed
Maintain a clean, clutter free environment in line with Infection Prevention & Control protocols
Ensure the correct disposal of clinical waste and sharps
Undertake administrative duties as required of the position

Long Bennington Medical Centre is a friendly GP led Practice with a team of 3 Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, 2 Practice Nurses and Healthcare Assistant. The clinical team is supported by a group of Reception, Dispensary and Administration staff who together strive to provide a high level of patient focused service. Working under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, the post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient population. In addition, the phlebotomist will be expected to support the nursing team on an as required basis.

Induction Training

All staff will be required to partake and complete mandatory training as directed by the training coordinator, as well as participating in the practice training programme. Staff will also be permitted (subject to approval) to undertake external training courses which will enhance their knowledge and skills, progress their career and ultimately, enable them to improve processes and service delivery.

All staff are to recognise the significance of collaborative working. Teamwork is essential in multidisciplinary environments. Effective communication is essential and all staff must ensure they communicate in a manner which enables the sharing of information in an appropriate manner.
Service Delivery
