Dr J Henderson & Partners

Clinical Pharmacist for Patient Safety

The closing date is 20 March 2026

Job summary

We are a forward-looking practice seeking a full-time Clinical Pharmacist to join our team in a new role with a focus on championing and proactively managing patient safety in the organization. This post will suit a skilled clinician who recognises the importance of patient safety and has the confidence to champion this throughout the organization. This role will sit alongside but remain distinct from our two other clinical pharmacists who will continue to perform reviews primarily in patient-initiated appointments.

Main duties of the job

This new role will involve the creation, running and review of regular reports of our patient notes database to ensure that patients are proactively reviewed and contacted appropriately. We will work with the successful applicant to identify the most relevant reports and we anticipate that this will evolve over time. Initially we anticipate that this is likely to include:

Regular reports to ensure patients starting specific key medication have had appropriate blood tests.

Regular reports to ensure all patients continuing specific key medications have had appropriate monitoring blood tests.

Regular reports to ensure that shared care agreements are in place and upheld where appropriate.

Regular reports to ensure that all patients on repeat medications who have not had recent medication review are reminded to book one.

Regular reports to review patients who are on controlled medications or potentially addictive medications.

Regular reports to identify patients with COPD and asthma who have been recently been prescribed medications for an infective exacerbation to ensure that they are reviewed, that their exacerbation has resolved and their medications are optimised.

About us

Bassett Road Surgery is one of three practices in Leighton Buzzard, a canal-side town with a population of 50,000 that lies equidistant from Milton Keynes, Aylesbury and Luton. The practice cares for 20,000 patients and dispenses to a small proportion of this list.

We pride ourselves on our ethos that all our patients deserve excellent, safe and holistic care, irrespective of their circumstances or background and have developed a number of innovative roles to meet the changing needs of our patients as best as possible. We have a well-established team of Complex Care Matrons who coordinate the care of our most complex and vulnerable patients, particularly those who are housebound. We have nurses and pharmacists with special interests in diabetes, COPD and asthma. For many years we have found pharmacists to play a critically important role in our team, offering valuable perspective on clinical care. We hope that this new role will be the next step in building on this.
