Job summary

We are looking to recruit an experienced Emergency Care Practitioner to join our On-The-Day-Team; our On-The-Day-Team currently consists of GPs, Nurse Practitioners and a Clinical Pharmacist.

We are a training group and offer development for our staff including external and internal training opportunities. We use the SystmOne clinical system and are committed to providing high quality health care to our rural population.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be a registered ECP/paramedic with post graduate qualifications relevant to the position, who acting within their professional boundaries, will provide care for the presenting patient from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care. They will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care for patients within the general practice. They will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.

The post holder will work with the emergency On-The-Day-Team triaging and treating minor illnesses and injuries. There will also be occasional home visiting duties as required by the group.

Person Specification



  • Experience of assessing patients requiring emergency/urgent care and planning/designing care treatment plans/programmes.
  • Experience of using clinical examination and diagnostic reasoning skills in emergency/urgent care.


  • Experience using the clinical system SystmOne.



  • Current registration with HCPC
  • Completion of a recognised post-graduate ECP qualification
  • Hold or be working towards a prescribing qualification at Degree level. Willingness to achieve prescribing/supplementary prescriber qualification at Degree level if needed

Knowledge and Skills


  • An understanding of team dynamics, including what factors make teamwork well and what can go wrong. Particularly in relation to a multi-disciplinary team and cross boundary working.
  • Ability to use IT systems such as Microsoft Office 365.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Able to work with and without direct supervision to achieve the objectives of the post.
  • Able to prioritise work from more than one source.
  • Able to identify and prioritise complex clinical workloads and demands.
  • Able to communicate clearly and succinctly in writing.
  • Able to provide clear and concise verbal communication.
  • Able to communicate electronically and via the telephone.
  • Able to present complex clinical information to other healthcare professional as required.
  • Able to communicate to patients, friends and relatives professionally in stressful situations.
  • Able to vary days worked and location worked as required.
