Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Practice Nurse to join our busy nursing team across our three sites at Ruby Country Medical Group.

The role is advertised at 30 hours per week, which will be worked across our sites as required.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team. The duties will include all tasks normally undertaken by an experienced RGN and in addition any roles agreed between the nurse and the doctors as appropriate, having regard to current training.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant Nursing Qualification
  • Current and valid registration with the NMC
  • General Practice Nurse Qualification or equivalent

Desirable

  • Independent/supplementary nurse prescribing qualification
  • Minor injuries qualification
  • Chronic Disease management
  • Respiratory Specialist or Interest in Respiratory

Experience

Essential

  • Post registration experience
  • Primary care nursing experience
  • Experience in nurse-led management of long-term conditions

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Knowledge of patient group directions and associated policy
  • Skills in management of patients with long-term conditions
  • Clinical skills chronic disease management, cervical cytology, immunisation and vaccination
  • Change-management skills and ability to support patients to change lifestyle
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to communicate difficult messages to patients and families
  • IT skills, competent with Microsoft Office 365, email, and use of internet as a resource

Desirable

  • Awareness of local and national health policy
  • Knowledge of public health issues in the area
  • Knowledge of clinical governance issues in primary care
  • Audit skills
  • Knowledge of Primary Care IT systems
