Job summary

We are looking to employ a part time GP Practice receptionist (approx 20-25 hours per week) to work as part of a small team providing a high level of patient care. The role is to deal with patients both face to face and on the telephone for a wide range of enquiries. This will include triaging the patients to ensure the most appropriate pathway of care is offered to the patient.

Our receptionists are a vital role within the practice team and are the first point of contact to our patients. It is a busy role and no two days are ever the same.

Main duties of the job

  • Opening up/locking up of practice premises and maintaining security in accordance with practice protocols
  • Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointments system
  • Processing personal and telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations, and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional
  • Processing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mail
  • Taking messages and passing on information
  • Filing and retrieving paperwork
  • Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines
  • Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures
  • Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team member and associated healthcare agencies and providers
  • Clearing and re-stocking of consulting rooms as required along with clinical staff
  • Providing clerical assistance to practice staff as required from time to time, including word/data processing, filing, photocopying and scanning
  • Dealing with clinical waste
  • Provision of refreshments for staff and visitors as required; keeping the kitchen area clean and tidy
  • Keeping the reception area, notice-boards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter

About us

Beechwood Surgery is a small, single handed GP practice based in the village of Thornton on the Fylde Coast with a patient population of approximately 2500. The team comprises of our GP Partner, 2 locum GPs, 2 Practice Nurses, pharmacy technician along with our reception and administration teams.

We work as part of the Wyre Integrated Network (WIN) PCN which comprises of 4 local GP Practices based in Thornton and Poulton. The WIN PCN team work between the 4 surgeries and comprise of Social Prescribers, Care Co-ordinators, Paramedics, Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
