Job summary

Exceptional opportunity at our practice in Lynton, Devon for up to 8 sessions per week on a permanent contract at Salaried, Employed or Consultant level. This is an exceptional opportunity for GPs seeking Clinical Leadership opportunities, as we would support the successful candidate in developing their skills with a view to becoming the practice Clinical Lead.

The practice Clinical Lead works with the Practice Manager to develop the clinical workforce and manage the clinical services provided by the practice team. Symphony have an established Clinical Leads Forum, where best practice and advice is shared across our 20 practices. We can offer bespoke development support and mentorship and protected time to carry out the Leadership role with enhanced funding.

Our practice list is just under 3,000 patients, so small enough for you to know our patients well, but were also part of Symphony, the largest GP provider in Somerset so benefit from the experience and learning across a network of 20 practices.

Lynton is a picturesque town positioned on the spectacular North Devon coast, surrounded by stunning scenery and magnificent wildlife. The town is home to some unique independent shops and charming cafes. Lynton is connected to Lynmouth by the Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff railway, offering wonderful views over the bay. We are under a 40 minute drive away from Barnstaple, North Devon's largest town and Minehead, which boasts a wonderful long flat sandy beach and historic harbour.

Main duties of the job

You would undertake all the clinical duties associated with a GP working in primary care, without the responsibilities and risks associated with being a partner. We can offer opportunities from salaried through to employed and consultant level GP posts depending on your experience and the level of responsibility you take on at the practice, for example as Safeguarding Lead or providing minor surgery.

All GPs working for Symphony are paid as Employees, which means less risk for you and more time to focus on patient care. We put patients first, with our Employed and Consultant GPs focussing on continuity of care and working flexibly according to need. You will be able to contribute to areas such as QOF, QI, training and research projects providing a huge amount of variety to the role. Our Salaried GPs have a clearly defined job plan setting out the hours of work and responsibility and tasks associated with the role.

Through annual appraisal, we encourage career development and progression and are keen to support GPs who wish to extend their role, or have specialist skills which can be utilised in primary care. We recognise that some GPs will wish to stay salaried, and some will wish to assume more responsibility once they have found their feet and aspire to Employed (providing continuity of care) or Consultant (providing clinical leadership) roles.
