Job summary

Mount Road Surgery are looking for an enthusiastic, articulate and approachable individual to work as a Phlebotomist in our friendly, busy Practice providing care to over 8000 patients.

We are looking for a person with a positive can-do attitude, who is able to demonstrate this through behaviour and commitment to the role. Someone who has a passion for patient care and can both work as part of a team, and on their own when the situation requires it.

Applicants must be reliable, flexible and be able to work effectively under pressure with excellent communication skills and a good command of the English language.

Previous phlebotomy healthcare experience is essential.

Applicants must be able to drive and fulfil the travel requirements of the role. The role will include home visits.

Main duties of the job

To collect bloods samples in the surgery or on home visits, take blood pressures and weigh patients.

MOUNT ROAD SURGERY

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Phlebotomist

GRADE: Band 3

HOURS: Part Time

RESPONSIBLE TO: Nursing Team Lead + Practice Manager

OBJECTIVES:

To work as part of the nursing teamproviding an efficient and politeservice to patients, doctors and otherteam members

HOURS: 20 hours per week (Monday 8am-4pm,Tuesday 8am-12noon,Wednesday 8am-12nooon, Friday 8am- 12noon)

MAIN DUTIES:

1. To provide a friendly and efficient service to patients and visitors,both in person and over the telephone. This involves:

i. Clinical and Administrative duties in order to provide holistic care to patients whilst attending the surgery, support and assist the practice nurse/s, allowing them more time to spend on assessing and managing their treatment.

ii. Report all matters pertaining to patients care changes in condition/circumstances to a relevant member of the nursing or medical team as a matter of priority and ensure that a written record is kept.

iii. Report any safeguarding concerns to the Usual GP or Safeguarding lead as a matter of priority and ensure relevant records are updated or created.

iv. Prepare and explain Clinical Procedures to patients according to agreed guidelines/protocols.

v. Using tact and discretion to obtain information of a personal nature when assessing the urgency of a request.

vi. Provide phlebotomy service for the practice including home visits. Driving licenseessential.

vii. Carry out lifestyle advice to patients as requested, follow up as appropriate.

viii. Summary of current duties: phlebotomy, blood pressures and weighing.

2. To exercise complete confidentiality at all times, with regard to patients information and the running of the Practice, breach of this may lead to instant dismissal.

3. Ensure that the clinical room is at all times kept in a clean and orderly manner and that relevant equipment is ready for use.

4. General Office Duties - run computer reports as necessary, filing etc. Performing other clerical duties and attending clinics as required.

5. To attend relevant meetings and courses as and when required.

6. To function as an integral part of a developing team.

7. All contacts that you have with patients MUST be recorded.

8. Have knowledge of and act at all times within the boundaries of health and safety legislation and data protection acts.

9. Continuous mandatory training.

10. Other duties as requested by the doctors, nurses and management; the employer can determine any additional duties that may be required as long as they do not exceed the level of responsibility expected for the grade of post.

The post-holder will follow the MHCC policy for safeguarding. A copy of the policy is available to all staff. It is stored in Legacy/Safeguarding/MHCC safeguarding policy. Our safeguarding leads are Dr Mansoor Choudhary and Dr Colin Hoddes, deputy is the patients usual GP, Admin lead is Victoria Bolton.
