Job summary

28- 30 hours per week worked across four days.

To include a wide range of administrative duties including:

  • the accurate and timely processing of prescription requests for the entire population, liaising effectively with all relevant personnel. Duties can include but are not limited to, the processing of repeat prescriptions in electronic and hard copy format, including online requests and the management of patients medications review recalls and reminders.

administrative support to the multidisciplinary team, undertaking a wide range of data inputting and communicating with all area of the team and patients, ensuring the strategic objectives of the practice are met

Main duties of the job

  1. Process repeat prescription requests
  2. Produce prescriptions for the GP to sign

  3. Ensure all prescription requests are processed within a 48-hour timeframe

  4. Generate requests for medication on behalf of the patient

  5. Ensure medication reviews are arranged by maintain an accurate recall system

  6. Input data into the patients healthcare records as necessary

  7. Read code data on Systm One

  8. Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times

  9. Administrative support to the multidisciplinary team

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the prescription/admin clerk. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

a. Process repeat prescription requests received by phone, email, fax, post, slips and the online access system, in accordance with practice protocol

b. Produce prescriptions for the GP to sign in an acceptable timeframe

c. Ensure all prescription requests are processed and are ready for collection within a 48-hour timeframe

d. Generate requests for medication on behalf of the patient for non-repeat items

e. Actively encourage patients to reconcile medications to facilitate monthly collections

f. Discuss with patients their requirements, encouraging patients to order only what they require

g. Act upon compliance issues, liaising with the appropriate clinician

h. Ensure medication reviews are arranged by maintain an accurate recall system

i. Effectively liaise with external services i.e. district nurses to ensure medicaments are arranged for housebound patients

j. Input data into the patients healthcare records as necessary

k. Deal with all prescription related enquiries in a timely manner

l. Record and reported adverse effects accurately and appropriately, informing the practice manager immediately

m. Read code data on Systm One

n. Carry out system searches as requested

o. Maintain a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times

p. Administrative support to the multidisciplinary team

Secondary Responsibilities

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the prescription admin clerk may be requested to:

a. Partake in audit as directed by the audit lead

b. Support the Deputy Practice Manager in reviewing and updating the practice prescribing policy

c. Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota
