The Assistant Practice Manager supports the Practice Manager Partner and GP Partners in the operational, strategic and workforce management of the practice. The post holder must have proven management experience and demonstrable experience within primary care. ( must be Emis web trained)
The role includes full oversight of all departments including reception, administration and clinical support teams, ensuring efficient day-to-day running of the surgery. The Assistant Practice Manager will deputise for the Practice Manager when required.
Key responsibilities include line management of staff, recruitment, appraisals, probation reviews, absence monitoring and supporting disciplinary and grievance procedures in line with employment law and practice policy. The role involves workforce planning, rota oversight and staff development.
The post holder will monitor performance against contractual targets including QOF, Enhanced Services and PCN requirements, analysing data and implementing action plans where needed.
Attendance at Partner, management, HR, PCN and Federation/Confederation meetings is required, contributing to service development and strategic planning.
The role also supports CQC compliance, complaints management, policy implementation and maintaining high standards of governance and confidentiality.
Strong leadership, organisational skills and a thorough understanding of NHS primary care are essential.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties
Support the Practice Manager Partner and GP Partners in the operational and strategic management of the practice, deputising in their absence. Maintain oversight of all departments including reception, administration and clinical support teams to ensure safe, efficient day-to-day running of the surgery.
Provide line management to staff, including recruitment, induction, probation reviews, appraisals, performance management, absence monitoring and supporting disciplinary and grievance procedures in line with employment legislation and practice policy. Contribute to workforce planning, rota management and staff development.
Monitor and support achievement of contractual and performance targets including QOF, Enhanced Services and PCN requirements, analysing data and implementing action plans where necessary.
Attend and contribute to Partner, management, HR, PCN and Federation/Confederation meetings, preparing reports and following up agreed actions.
Support compliance with CQC standards, complaints management, policy implementation, governance processes and maintaining confidentiality and data protection standards.
Drive service improvement initiatives and ensure effective communication across all teams.
