Here at Billinghay Medical Practice, we have an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the team. We are looking for the right candidate to work 25 hours a week, alongside the other Healthcare Assistant and the Practice Nurses.

The contracted hours would be:

Monday- 8:30-13:00

Tuesday- 8:30-16:00

Wednesday- 8:30-13:00

Thursday- 8:30-13:00

Friday- 8:30-13:00

Additional hours may be required from time to time to support the team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate would work as part of an excellent nursing team, who remain adaptable and considerate to changes within general Practice and the NHS.

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will be responsible for the efficient running of your daily clinic therefore, a proactive and dynamic attitude is essential in this role. On a daily basis, you will carry out phlebotomy as well as baseline observations such as blood pressure and pulse rate checks. In addition, you will be required to do over 75 and NHS health checks.

Previous phlebotomy experience is essential in this role.

Previous experience working in a GP setting is an advantage however, not essential as full training will be provided.

Billinghay Medical Practice is a rural and caring practice which provides a range of services for the 4,900 patients who are registered with us.

We have a skilled and experienced team comprising of 3 GPs, 3 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Care Co-ordinator and an excellent nursing team. Alongside these we have a highly motivated and competent Reception / Administration and Dispensary teams.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of a Healthcare Assistant;

To undertake all duties in line with the training and instruction provided by the Nurses and General Practitioners.

Venepuncture and the taking and preparing of pathology samples.

Undertake ECGs and observations.

Assist with the provision of health checks for both newly registered patients, over 75s and the NHS health Check programme.

Conduct weight and height measurements, test and record blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

The testing and result recording of clinical specimens.

Provide assistance (assisting patients to dress and undress) in minor operations / surgery ensuring patient care by chaperoning.

The ongoing cleaning and sterilisation of clinical equipment and working surfaces, preparing HCA room(s) prior to use.

Ensure adequate infection control procedures in HCA room(s).

Managing and recalling patients prescribed specialised drugs.

Booking in/out of home BP machines for patient and calculating average readings before passing results to the clinical team.

Undertake ear irrigation at the discretion of the Practice Nurses and after patient has had an initial assessment by the nurse on duty or referred by GP/NP.

To carry out minor dressings and injuries that present at the Practice and wound care after the patient has had an initial assessment by a nurse or duty doctor.

To report any wound concerns to the nurse or clinician on duty.

The collection of clinical waste, ensuring appropriate storage prior to disposal.

To work within own boundaries and capabilities.

The inputting of information onto the Practice clinical system.

The checking and recording of medical supplies on receipt.

To ensure adequate clinical stock levels and maintain an effective stock management system.

Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained with a focus on GP/NP and HCA rooms.

Any other reasonable duties which may be requested from time-to-time.
