Job summary
Billinghay Medical Practice is a rural and caring practice which provides a range of services for the 4800 patients who are registered with us. Working under direct supervision of the GPs, we are looking for a reliable, flexible Practice Nurse to work within clinical team of GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses and Health Care Support workers.
Main duties of the job
The ideal candidate will have some experience in the management
of chronic diseases (Diabetes, Asthma, COPD) and other treatment room duties
including wound treatment, cervical cytology, child immunisations and travel
vaccinations, however full training will be given if required.
You must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be highly motivated and flexible to ensure we maintain a high quality service to our patient population.

To provide a high quality care service based on the needs of the
Practice population which includes treatment, screening, preventative care and patient education.
Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical
- To manage patients with chronic disease, running specific clinic sessions and maintaining robust call and recall systems
- Participate in national screening work such as cervical cytology and deliver the national immunisation and vaccination schedule
- Provide travel health advice and administer appropriate vaccinations
- Treat patients with minor injuries
- Provide directly and assist GPs with contraceptive services
- Break bad news to patients/parents/carers and provide appropriate ongoing support to meet identified needs
- Act as chaperone when required
- Undertake health promotion to help educate patients
- Select, carry out and interpret results of specific tests
- Undertake anticoagulation clinics to include interpretation of blood tests and dosing
Administration
- To maintain accurate patient records and enter onto the computer using agreed Read Codes
- Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care
- To collect data and participate in regular Practice audit and research projects
- To contribute to the preparation of any Practice development plans
General
- To maintain own annual registration with the NMC and adhere to Code of Professional Conduct
- To maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for all PHCT staff, patients, carers and co-workers from other agencies. Ensure all statutory regulations (e.g. Health & Safety, COSHH, etc) are implemented and adhered to
- To promote a professional approach at all times by attire and attitude to patients and staff both in and out of the Practice
- To maintain own continuous professional development and ensure PDP kept up-to-date in line with the requirements of the Practice
- Attend and participate in staff and Practice meetings and in-house clinical training sessions
- Any other reasonable duties that may be required from time-to-time
