Job summary

We're recruiting a Medical Secretary / Receptionist to join our amazing administrative team from September. You will help us give great service to the patients and clinical staff in our 8300 patient surgery. For the right applicant we offer a good working environment and full training.

The right candidate:

  • has experience of medical secretary work (referrals, dealing with secondary care)
  • can balance medical secretary and reception work according to needs of the practice
  • will work later shifts each day up to 6.30pm
  • wants to work 20-30 hours over 3 or 4 days.

Main duties of the job

You will be a full member of the Belle Vale administrative team - undertaking reception and medical secretary tasks as needed.

  • Complete all secretarial duties on time.
  • Complete safety netting searches to monitor patients for investigations etc.
  • Complete and follow up e-referrals, managed referrals, and standard outbound referrals.
  • Chase hospital appointments / clinic letters / investigations on behalf of patients.
  • Run cytology searches inviting patients who are due/overdue cervical screenings and ensure letters go out
  • Process solicitor / insurance requests for copy of medical records
  • Answer the main surgery telephone line and take enquiries up to 6.30pm.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • At least 1 to 2 years experience of working in administration in a healthcare role such as a GP practice or similar
  • Highly methodical and good attention to detail both written and numerical
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Able to learn new skills and processes
  • Good attitude and timekeeping
  • Ability to solve problems
  • Able to work according to business need between 8.00am and 6.30pm Mon to Fri. Occasionally you will start at 7am or finish at 8pm or help with a Saturday flu clinic

Desirable

  • Experience as a medical secretary in a GP practice
  • Able to use EMIS - our patient record computer system
