Job summary

Practice Nurse required by Mytton Oak Surgery .

We are a friendly, supportive team committed to excellent patient care. We are seeking an experienced Practice Nurse , 18 hours per week over Wednesday and Thursday, with flexibility to cover additional shifts and different days when necessary, to join us in early September. You will undertake the full range of treatment room duties, as well as immunisations, chronic disease management, immunisations and cervical cytology. Experience in the care of Diabetic patients would be an advantage . You must have great interpersonal skill and a flexible attitude. Salary will depend on experience. There will be a requirement to work occasionally at weekends.

Main duties of the job

THe usual Practice Nurse Duties, including:

Chronic Disease management, particularly Diabetes

Wound Care/ ulcer care/dopplers

Travel clinics

Cytology

Removal of Sutures

Travel Clinic

ECGs

Asthma/Peak Flow Readings.

Hypertension Management

Ear irrigation

Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations

Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs

Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required, delivering the nursing agenda.

We have a friendly, supportive and well, established Practice Team. The Nursing team comprises Two ANPs, one of whom is the Nurse Manager, two other Practice Nurses and and HCA. The team works closely with our 7 Doctors

Job description

Job responsibilities

2. Job Purpose

To provide a high standard of skilled nursing care to patients attending Mytton Oak Surgery.

To work with all members of the Practice in the care of practice patients to include treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education

To be involved with the development of services available to the practice population reflecting their identified needs and to provide these services.

To provide care directly to patients without referral via a doctor, ensuring own actions are consistent with clinical governance systems and managing risk.

To continue to develop skills and knowledge to improve and update own nursing practice.

Contribute to analysing, interpreting and reporting factual data and information on the health and well-being needs of the practice population.

To monitor and maintain the health, safety and security of self and others in the work area.

4. Specific Responsibilities

It is not expected that a new Jobholder will necessarily be proficient in all of the following duties. They should however, be sufficiently experienced to be able to conduct Treatment Room clinics independently and be willing to learn new skills over time.

Clinical Nursing Practice

Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by GPs

Responsible for Infection Control and to advise PM and GPs of any changes required to ensure we are achieving a high infection control rate.

Responsible for appraising team members and ensuring their Professional Development is encouraged and achieved.

Act as a mentor to more junior staff.

Cytology

Wound care / ulcer care/dopplers.

Removal of Sutures

New Patient Medicals/Urinalysis

Travel Clinic

ECGs

Asthma/Peak Flow Readings.

Venepuncture

Hypertension Management

Ear syringing

Diabetic Reviews of management and treatment.

COPD and spirometry screening.

Asthma Reviews.

Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations

Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician

Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings

Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs

Interest in Contraception.

Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to GPs as appropriate

Other tasks will include

Clean and prepares items for sterilising.

Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs

Maintaining Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required

Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician.

Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms

Ordering of Health Promotion Literature

Ordering of stock

Participation in administrative systems in the Practice

At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records

A duty to advise GPs/practice Manager of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks

Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required, delivering the nursing agenda.

Produce written documents that evidence the contribution of the nursing team to the practice priorities.

Ensure awareness of sources of support and guidance eg (PALS) and provide information in an acceptable format to all patients.
