Job summary

We are recruiting for a part time Phlebotomist to join our friendly practice team.

The Sonning Common Health Centre team believes in providing excellent, effective and accessible healthcare in a safe, caring, and patient centred way.

Main duties of the job

Our Phlebotomist will provide blood clinics on weekday mornings and the role requires close working witha phlebotomistcolleague, with nursing colleagues and with GPs. The Phlebotomist will also work with Reception and Admin team colleagues at the health centre.

We are looking for an individual with previous Phlebotomy experience. We seek an individual with excellent communication, IT and organisational skills and with experience of working with patients in a healthcare environment and experience of working in a busy team.

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Phlebotomist role. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

  • Properly prepare and assemble the equipment to include: tourniquets, needles, gauze cotton and disposal containers (Sharps bins) for needles

  • Be skilled in locating a vein and inserting a needle easily and painlessly

  • Collect blood for testing

  • Label blood samples accurately

  • Store blood samples correctly for collection by the Pathology transport team

  • Update a patients medical record on the EMIS medical system on a PC

  • Check and record fridge temperatures
