Job summary
We are recruiting for a part time Phlebotomist to work three mornings a week at our GP surgery. Our Phlebotomists:
-obtain blood samples from patientstohelp the wider clinical team with a patients diagnosis and treatment.
-must ensure that samples are carefully and accurately labelled and prepared for collection by the Pathology transport team (for their analysis).
-need good IT skills as they must record information in a patients record after every blood sample is taken.
-manage busy morning blood clinics.
The role requires close working with a Phlebotomist colleague, with nursing colleagues and with GPs. The Phlebotomist also works with Reception and Admin team colleagues at the health centre.
Main duties of the job
-Venepuncture
-Requesting pathology tests and processing the results, advising patients accordingly
-Ability to record accurate clinical notes
-Ability to work within own scope of practice and understanding when to refer to nurses or GPs
-An understanding of and ability to apply the principles of the cold chain
-Knowledge of Infection control and sterilisation policies and procedures
-Chaperone procedure
-Excellent communication skills
-Strong IT skills
-Effective time management
-Strong team working skills
-Good interpersonal skills
