Job summary

We are looking for an exceptional individual to join our management team team as one of our practice managers.

The post holder will be supported by the Business Manager and will be given autonomy to deliver necessary changes as appropriate in your allocated responsible areas. You will be a quick and agile learner, able to assimilate and process large amounts of information quickly and implement and deliver solutions.

Not only will the post holder be expected to provide strong and robust practice leadership, they also need to be driven, resilient, compassionate and absolutely committed to delivering excellent primary care services to our population.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will either be an experienced practice manager with excellent working knowledge of current NHS general practice or an exceptional individual from another business setting with a strong track record of effectively managing teams and business functions in a complex system. You will have major areas of work delegated to yourself such as HR and training, undertake administration and project work as required and will develop streamlined protocols, systems and procedures.

About us

We are a friendly, supportive and innovative training Practice in inner city Bradford. Kensington is based over 4 sites, so even with a main base you would have the opportunity to work across the sites for some diversity at times. We have a patient list size of approximately 23,500 delivering high quality care to our diverse group of patients. We are actively involved in our Primary Care Network.

We have a dedicated team of 7 GP Partners, GP Registrar and Foundation Year Doctor, ANP, ACP, Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Practice Nurses, HCAs, Receptionists and Administration teams.

Job responsibilities

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Staff Management

Working with relevant line managers the post holder will assume overall managerial responsibility for all staff (excluding Business Manager and Partners) providing compassionate and inspiring leadership to the whole team. This includes direct line management of the Assistant Practice Managers and other supervisors/team members as appropriate

To organise and attend practice meetings in addition to meeting regularly with the senior management team.

To regularly monitor the skill mix and deployment of staff in the reception and administrative team, to review their roles and responsibilities, to ensure that all staff are performing at expected standards and that workload within the teams is distributed appropriately.

Undertake regular one to one meetings with staff to review their performance and highlight any issues and to take do their annual appraisal.

Evaluate, oversee and organise staff induction and training and ensure that all staff are adequately trained and equipped to fulfil their role. The post-holder will take full responsibility for the governance and processes required when new staff join as well as when staff members leave.

To take responsibility for the entirety of the recruitment process for new administrative staff.

To take responsibility for the recruitment of clinical staff including negotiation of their terms and management of their contracts as agreed with the partners.

To ensure that the reception and administrative team participate in both clinical and non-clinical audit, significant event reviews and any other quality review measures as required.

To authorise and monitor overtime, sickness and annual leave.

To oversee and ensure complete accuracy and effectiveness of the doctors and nurses rotas and working to rapidly problem solve where issues are identified.

To ensure all staff are conducting themselves in an appropriate way at all times and to ensure that the highest standards of behaviour are adhered to, and to take appropriate disciplinary action if not.

Keep abreast of changes in employment legislation.

To identify IT training needs of the reception teams and to organise and evaluate any training provided/undertaken. To ensure full use by all reception staff of e-mails, shared information, clinical and appointments systems and Microsoft Office.
