Main duties of the job

About us

We are a two-site practice with one location in central Eastbourne and the other in the suburb of Langney. We belong to a high performing PCN. We currently have 17,700 patients and our list size is continuing to grow.

Our current medical team comprises 9 GP Partners and 4 Salaried GPs (8 of whom trained at the practice) working alongside a fantastic team of paramedics, pharmacists, physiotherapy practitioners and mental health support workers.

GPs work a range of clinical sessions and days, providing the opportunity to take on other portfolio interests. We operate a forward thinking Modern General Practice model, enabling us to manage demand safely and efficiently, whilst also protecting the wellbeing of our team.

Weare a training practice andbelieve that trainees are vitally important to the future of the NHS and our practice. We provide high qualitydynamic supervision and training in a supported environment for trainees and newly qualified GPs, with one Programme Director, three Educational Supervisors and several Clinical Supervisors.

We are knownfor our innovation and collaboration,both of which helped us achieve our Outstanding CQC rating.We have significant experience in our team which helpsdrive us forward -one of our partners isa Primary Care Medical DirectorinNHS England and another is a local GPVTS Programme Director and others sit on LMC and ICS leadership groups.

Job description

Job responsibilities

In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery face to face, telephone and online consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation

Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health

Providing counselling and health education

Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards

Collecting data for audit purposes

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)

Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
