Job summary

We are looking for a motivated Healthcare Assistant to join our experienced and forward-thinking practice team. Civic Medical Centre is a well-established practice and is passionate about providing a high-quality service to it patients.

We are a large practice with a patient list size of 9870 patients. We are high QOF achievers, and CQC Good in all areas.

Clinical system is EMIS web.

We are a member practice of Healthy South Wirral PCN who are a very forward thinking, proactive and supportive PCN. Ideally, we are looking for a Healthcare Assistant who has experience of working in primary care, however, we are prepared to invest in training for the right candidate who may not have such experience.

Main duties of the job

To support the practice nursing and administrative teams in the delivery of clinical and administrative services, working as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.

The Healthcare Assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education whilst also supporting the administrative team on an as-required basis.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Primary responsibilities:

a. Undertake new patient health checks

b. Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes

c. Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately

d. Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly

e. Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required

f. Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics

g. Undertake INR blood test monitoring

h. Carry out BMI checks as directed

i. Act as a chaperone as required

j. Undertake venepuncture

k. Administer vaccinations under the supervision of a practice nurse

l. When trained, carry out ear irrigation under the supervision of a practice nurse

m. Carry out ECGs as requested

n. Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

o. Provide support during minor operations as required

p. Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

q. Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance

r. Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policy

s. Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate

Secondary responsibilities:

a. Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead

b. Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care

c. Support and participate in shared learning within the organisation
