Job summary

The job advertised is the role of Receptionist in a busy GP Surgery. 30 hrs per week /32hrs with 30 mins unpaid break daily The shifts to be covered either begin at 7.45am or end at 6.30pm and you would be expected to work a mixture of these on a set 2 week rota over 4 days -subject to change to cover annual leave and sickness- The hours required are below- after initial induction period.

Week 1 schedule: Mon& Fri 7.45am-3.45pm - Weds & Thurs 10.30am-6.30pm, Tues Day off

Week 2 schedule: Mon & Fri 10.30am-6.30pm - Weds & Thurs 7.45am-3.45pm, Tues Day off

Main duties of the job

Deal courteously with patients face to face and on the telephone.

Answer incoming telephone calls promptly and professionally.

Take accurate messages from patients requesting a home visit and prepare printed summary including a care plan if available.

Along with all other administrative roles covered in the job description and any ad- hoc tasks that arise.

About us

Severn View Family Practice is a three partner GP surgery based in Thornbury Health Centre. We have a list size of approx 9000. We look after local care/nursing homes as well as the Henderson rehabilitation ward.

We are a training practice and usually have a mixture of ST3, 1st/2nd/5th yr students.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Deal courteously with patients face to face and on the telephone.

Answer incoming telephone calls promptly and professionally.

Take accurate messages from patients requesting a home visit and prepare printed summary including a care plan if available.

Care Navigate the patients to Book various appointments or telephone consultations. Provide patients with the relevant information about the standard care pathways.

Assist the Prescription hub with processing repeat prescription requests, in line with the practices protocol.

Scanning of incoming patients letters. Read and act on relevant information within the letter before scanning and posting to the workflow team to code further.

Accurately check and post Lab Links results in accordance with the practices protocol.

Refer patients to District nurses and other third parties as requested by a clinician and any other ad-hoc tasks that may arise.

Register new patients or temporary residents. Enter details onto the in-house computer system to provide clinicians with timely access to a patients record.

Collect monies on behalf of the practice in respect to private medical work and record the amount received and store in a secure area.

Understand and comply with the in-house complaints procedure. To be aware of the comments and suggestions box and act appropriately with the information provided by the patient.

Deal with difficult situations in a professional manner.

Complete workflow and Docman tasks

To cover any other administrative roles in the practice as and when necessary.

Maintain a code of strict confidentiality when dealing with patients, patients records and other clinically related matters. Comply with agreed Policies and Procedures in line with the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR.

Report immediately all accidents, incidents and dangerous occurrences and complaints to the Reception Supervisor.

All practice staff should be aware of their responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
