Job summary
The Healthcare Assistant (HCA) will be responsible for delivering NHS Health Checks for patients, in accordance with national guidelines.
Reporting to the Lead Nurse, your primary objective will be to conduct health checks and phlebotomy to patients on Saturday clinic days. You may also be asked to assess the risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and diabetes based on the results of these tests using defined parameters.
Performing other general routine tasks such as patient appointments, gathering family medical histories and administering flu and other immunisations may be required.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct NHS Health Checks.
- Gather comprehensive family medical histories.
- Perform routine blood testing, including HbA1c, as per NHS guidelines.
- Measure pulse rate and height during appointments.
- Conduct phlebotomy.
Risk Assessment
- Assess the risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and diabetes based on test results.
- Adhere to NHS national guidelines for accurate risk assessment.
- Adapt Health Checks as appropriate in accordance with national guidelines.
Patient Management
- Identify eligible patients for NHS Health Checks.
- Schedule and manage appointments for eligible patients.
- Monitor and manage Did Not Attend (DNA) cases effectively.
- Input all results from NHS Health Checks into the practice's clinical system.
- Request and co-ordinate Pre appointment information from patients to assist in the Health Check appointment
Administration and Reception Duties
- Undertake general administration duties as required by the practice.
- Provide reception cover as needed, including managing enquiries and appointments.
- Ensure efficient handling of administrative tasks to support smooth practice operations.
Communication and Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with the Duty GP for appropriate escalation of test results.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding their health checks and results.
- Maintain clear and concise documentation of patient records and test results.
