Job summary

Alconbury Surgery have a vacancy for a Dispenser within our busy GP Practice team.

This is a varied and interesting role where the succesful applicant will be supported to work independently and make a valuable contribution to our patient experience.

Main duties of the job

  1. Prescription Processing:Collect, review, and accurately dispense prescriptions as prescribed by healthcare professionals.
  2. Patient Service:Provide information and advice to patients regarding medications, usage instructions, and potential side effects.
  3. Medication Stock Control:Manage stock levels, order medicines, and ensure proper storage and inventory control.
  4. Quality and Safety Compliance:Follow legal, safety, and confidentiality regulations related to medication handling and dispensing.
  5. Record Keeping:Maintain accurate records of dispensed medications and patient interactions.
  6. Collaboration:Work closely with GPs, nurses, and pharmacists to ensure safe and effective medication management.
  7. Support Administrative Tasks:Assist with administrative duties such as processing invoices, maintaining files, and updating patient records.

We are looking for a dispenser to join this team on a 12 month fixed term contract whilst we navigate the change ahead as our Practice grows to open a third Surgery and meet the needs of our increasing number of regsitered patients.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Dealing with daily order of drugs received from wholesaler, i.e. checking order is correct and putting items into stock.

2. Order drugs, dressings, appliances, etc. from wholesalers and pharmaceutical companies.

3. Perform stock control, maintaining correct stock levels and stock rotation.

4. Keeping record of purchases and supply of controlled drugs as per Regulations and ensure that controlled drugs are stored securely.

5. Make up acute prescriptions during doctors surgeries.

6. Generate and make up repeat prescriptions, updating patients' records and amending them with any changes specified by doctors or the hospital.

7. Giving out made up prescriptions and the collection of prescription charges.

8. Receiving and dealing appropriately with all returned medication.

9. Preparation of unwanted drugs for collection by contracted couriers.

10. Dealing with monthly requests for prescriptions from nursing/residential homes.

11. Dispensing and checking dossett boxes / Monitored Dosage Systems (MDS)

12. Preparing MARS sheets and drug cards for Oakleigh residential home.

13. Ordering of FP10's and items for NOMAD boxes.

14. Monthly collation of FP10's for despatch to the PPA.

15. Keeping abreast of drug interactions and new drugs on the market etc.

16. Maintaining dispensary in a clean and tidy manner with due care to Health & Safety.

17. Updating formulary on the computer.

18. Use of DispensIT software.

19. Preparation of home deliveries.

20. Over the counter sales and service.

21. Dealing with telephone enquiries

22. Contribute a share of cover to facilitate the team taking annual leave and/or in the event of other unplanned absences.
