Job summary

This is a fantastic opportunity to be embedded into a family practice which serves a community of patients local to our area. Your role will be to provide services within your competencies, including but not limited to, long term condition reviews, smears, immunisations as well as other healthcare duties such as ECG, phlebotomy and blood pressures when the service needs it. Your skills will be developed and any further learning will be supported.

Main duties of the job

  • Perform routine nursing tasks related to patient care, such as BP checks, ECG, BMI and lifestyle advice and Health Checks
  • Undertake NHS immunisation programmes and ensure vaccines are administrated under patient group directives or patient specific direction
  • Administration of prescribed medicines via oral, IM, SC routes
  • Collection of specimens including venipuncture, swabs, urine culture
  • Chronic disease management including monitoring and undertaking investigations
  • Provide general health promotion education, advice on national screening programs and refer patients to appropriate services
  • Complete cervical screening tests
  • Complete investigatory tests, such as Ambulatory BP monitoring, automated Dopplers and Spirometry, taking basic history and referring patients to relevant clinician for interpretation/ planning of care
  • Maintain effective infection control measures in line with local guidelines and practice policy
  • Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and medication, including monthly stock take
  • Ordering and maintain stock within clinical rooms
  • Support QOF requirements, as well as other Local Commissioned Services and the PCN Des
  • Maintain accurate record keeping using EMIS Web
  • Attend practice meetings
  • Complete mandatory training
  • Adhere to policies and protocols as listed in the Staff Handbook and contract
