Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Phlebotomist to work at our busy Town Centre Practice.

You will be part of a team who are responsible for providing an efficient and well-led service to our patients. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the GPs, Practice Nurses and support staff to meet the needs of the patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.

We are looking for someone to fulfill a part-time position of 29.5 hours per week. The working pattern will be; Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri 8am-2pm & Wed 12pm-6.30pm.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Phlebotomy
  • Blood pressure checks
  • Urine testing, urinalysis and submitting samples to the laboratory following the practice protocol.
  • Obtaining of specimens, ensuring their maintenance under correct conditions and dispatch.
  • NHS Health Checks.
  • Assisting in health promotion activities for groups of patients e.g. promotion of a healthy lifestyle through smoking cessation, diet and exercise.
  • Blood Glucose measurement.
  • Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of equipment
  • Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Nurses, GPs, Partners or the Practice Manager.

Leicester Terrace Health Care Centre is a busy GP training Practice with 18,000 patients which creates a busy atmosphere. We have a Nursing Team of 9 who support each other to ensure a smooth day to day operation.

Job responsibilities

This job role provides /Phlebotomy appointments to run alongside GP, Practice Nurse appointments, offering blood tests, and health prevention screening as agreed by the practice and with regard to current training and the changing needs of the population.

The post holder will work collaboratively with the GPs, Practice Nurses and support staff to meet the needs of the patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.

To maintain personal development in line with requirements and practice objectives by attending courses/study days as arranged with the doctors and the manager

To actively participate in practice meetings, to participate in own annual appraisal and implement own personal development plan.

Working as part of the primary health care team

Record keeping and audit

Clinical audit of clinical responsibilities

Keep comprehensive records concerning your duties.

Record and update patient data.

Keeping contemporaneous records

General Duties

To be familiar with and comply with the practices policies, procedures and current legislation.

To recognise the patients right to privacy, dignity and confidentiality, showing due regard for the patients property

Assist in restocking of equipment required at the surgery, instruments and specimen collection materials and other clinical supplies.

Daily Bloods and Health Checks.

Keep up to date with NHS regulations.

Attend staff meetings as required.

Other duties that may reasonably be required to cover the absence of other team members.

Undertake any training that may be necessary to carry out duties and responsibilities efficiently or to keep up to date with working patterns and technology.
