Job summary
We are seeking experienced Mental Health nurse prescribers to join our NHS Practitioner Health team. In this role, you will work as part of a multi professional team which includes doctors, specialist nurses, psychiatrists and therapists. You will review new patient referrals and carry out initial assessments for patients who register with the service. You will carry out risk assessments and provide mental health management advice and treatment plans, to support patients in their recovery from mental illness or related issues

As a Mental Health nurse prescriber, you will work collaboratively across a multi-disciplinary team to support the NHS Practitioner Health service. You will be responsible for carrying out assessments of patients and for managing your own caseload.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- To provide expertise on assessment, management and care planning for patients who have complex/mental health problems and/or problematic alcohol or substance use.
- To carry out initial assessments for patients who register with the service and provide mental health management, and treatment plans.
- To support patients in their recovery from mental illness or related issues.
- Carry out peer review of cases and agree the appropriate treatment intervention for the patient.
- Assess which modality of therapy, if any, is appropriate and refer to suitable provider.
- As a non-medical prescriber, initiate treatment for patients who require pharmacology interventions and to provide pharmacology advice when attending the MDT and support to clinicians.
- Initiate treatment for patients who are presenting with substance misuse and continue to monitor abstinence and to assist in abstinence screening as required.

Practitioner Health operates across England and the majority of care is delivered via video-consultation, although where patient needs determine care will be offered face to face. Therefore, you can be based anywhere in England but should be prepared to travel to regional meetings and occasional all team events.
