We are looking for an accomplished, versatile, and highly organised person with appropriate experience to join our management team, providing on the ground assistant practice management and leadership for this large GP Practice.

Your main role will be to assist the Senior Practice Operations Manager in the management of the surgery and premises to deliver high quality care to the patient population.

Shift patterns will include early morning/evenings/weekends

Main duties of the job

Responsibilites:

· Deputise for the Senior Practice Operations Manager in their absence, with the support of Senior Management

· Co-operating with the SPOM on day to day operational/ work issues

· Line management of the supervisors and oversee line management of non-clinical team

· Attend, participate, and take minutes of practice meetings

· Maintain adequate cover for all staff during surgery hours, including sickness and holidays

· Allocate specified tasks requested by doctors and other members of the primary health care team

· Deal with staff issues, which directly affect the working environment e.g. booking of locum GP’s and cover staff in line with the budget or practice allocation.

· Ensure all administrative systems are running smoothly and make recommendations for improvements as necessary

· Review and update the practice’s protocols

· Maintain clinical registers and overseeing the call/ recall process

· Maintain practice inventory of equipment and organise repair and replacement where necessary following discussion with the SPOM

· Ensure the Health and Safety Policy is updated and carry out H+S checks as regularly as required. To report any risks to the SPOM

Main areas of responsibility involve the smooth day-to-day running of the practice, premises, staffing and staff development, including supporting GP trainees, overseeing QOF, claims, Enhanced Services and finances. The role will involve some strategic planning, an awareness of the need to manage an ever-increasing workload across the team and a forward-thinking mind set. The government is focusing on collaborative working in primary care, so we need a manager who can quickly form relationships with our neighbouring practices and have a vision to implement aspects of the Five Year Forward View

Essential

  • Educated to degree level, or hold an equivalent management qualification
  • Good standard of education with excellent literacy and numeracy skills

Desirable

  • Post graduate qualification
  • NHS / Primary Care General Practice experience
  • AMSPAR Qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of primary care, ideally including both general practice and unscheduled care and ability to participate at senior management level meetings.
  • Experience of performance management, including appraisal writing, staff development and disciplinary procedures.
  • Ability to identify staff training needs and to train staff.
  • Experience of workforce planning and maintaining staff rotas
  • Ability to motivate teams, enhance morale and maintain a positive working environment, including team building sessions
  • Experience of working with multi-disciplinary teams and effectively negotiating with junior and senior staff member
