Job summary

We are a friendly, innovative and progressive GP surgery, providing services to a diverse population in Wolverhampton. We operate out of a new, purpose built practice, opened in July. We are a training practice and offer services to a population of around 13,700 patients.

We have an opportunity for an experienced Finance/Accounts Officer to join our team, reporting to the Practice Manager.

Main duties of the job

The role is primarily to maximise income generation for the practice. The successful candidate will have experience in payroll management and accounting software systems. Other duties include managing and reconciling bank accounts, finance administration, completing claims, budgets and forecasting, managing invoices, managing partner payments and liaising with HMRC/pensions regulators and practice accountant and comply with finance regulations and legislation.

The ability to work independently, accurately and be well organised are all essential criterion. The preferred candidate will have excellent communication skills, be a team player and ideally have worked in general practice or a healthcare setting previously.

About us

GP Practice based in Wolverhampton. We have 6 Partners and a small team of salaried GP's, a clinical/management team and administration team comprising of reception, IT, secretarial and records maintenance.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Manage practice budgets and seek to maximise income
  • Monitor monthly income to ensure correct payments are received
  • Through negotiation with the ICB/NHS England and in preparation and submission of regular data submissions, ensure the Practice receives an appropriate and equitable allocation of resources
  • Understand and report on the financial implications of contract and legislation changes
  • Manage Practice accounts; submit year-end figures promptly and liaise with the Practice accountant
  • Monitor cash-flow, prepare monthly forecasts/budgets/reports to the Practice Manager and Partners
  • Submit claims for sickness, reimbursement where appropriate
  • Manage finance and accounts administration
  • Manage and reconcile bank accounts; negotiate/liaise with the Practice bankers
  • Monitor and reconcile income and expenditure statements
  • Manage partners drawings
  • Manage and monitor PAYE for Practice staff and maintain appropriate records

  • Submit quarterly drug care data and information.
