Working days Wednesday/Thursday/Friday between 8am - 6.30pm
We do not work late evenings, so if you like to stay until 10pm at night this is not the job for you. Laptop available for those who like to check results etc from home, work/life balance is important.
Main duties of the job
Traditional general practice with all of the modern twists.
The clinical system is EMIS Web; mornings are a mix of online consultations with telephone triage where appropriate, followed by 15-minute appointments. Focused admin time, time for home visits along with a 30 minute daily clinical huddle/coffee mid-morning. We strive to share the workload
between the whole team to maintain a good work-life balance.
We are part of Mid Devon Healthcare Primary Care network (PCN) which is
a group of four practices serving a population of 34,000 patients. Whilst there
is no OOH commitment, we can offer opportunity to be involved in PCN Extended
Access delivery on Saturdays from the HUB, if desired.

This Job Description is neither exhaustive nor exclusive and will be reviewed periodically in conjunction with the post holder.
The post holder is required to perform any duties that may reasonably be requested by Partners.
- The salaried GP will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing Personal Medical Services to the patients of Practice.
- Working in accordance with the GMC Code of Conduct, the post-holder will provide assessment, treatment, screening, health education services and advice to patients on general health care and minor ailments with referral as necessary.
- The post-holder will work with reference to Practice agreed protocols and guidelines, providing treatment to patients both independently and in participation with colleagues.
- The post-holder will have the required level of training and competence and will work within practice policies, adhering to GMC and NHS England standards, policies and protocols.
- In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
- Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
- Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
- Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
- In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
- Providing counselling and health education
- Referring to other care providers as appropriate
- Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
- Collecting data for audit purposes
- Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
- Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
- In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
Other Responsibilities within the Organisation:
- Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety
- A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice
- Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation
- Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records
- Contributing to the summarising of patient records and Read-Coding patient data
- Attending and participating in meetings, training and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
