Job summary
The post holder will work under indirect supervision
of the practice nurse team leader (or in partnership with practice nurses, assistant
practitioners or GPs) to deliver routine clinical and non-clinical duties
including patient treatment and care.
The individual will need a caring and empathetic character and will be looking to forge a career for themselves in a healthcare environment.
Main duties of the job
Venepuncture
ECG recording
Phlebotomy
Spirometry/Peak Flow
Chaperoning duties
Basic wound care
Ear syringing
Undertake new patient health checks and general health checks
Undertake a range of diagnostic procedures e.g. urinalysis, blood
pressure monitoring, pregnancy tests, near patient blood glucose testing,
hearing tests, diabetic foot checks, glucose tolerance tests, ECGs plus others
where required (within capabilities and as required for the role)
Delivery of health promotion e.g. smoking reduction advice, diet,
exercise and alcohol
Maintain stocks control for all clinical rooms

team of staff who work at Market Surgery which currently consists ofGP Partners,salaried GPs, various Practice Nurses and dedicated Reception and Administrative teams

variety of differently skilled clinicians including Physiotherapists, Midwives,

and provided with the informed consent of the patient following policy, procedures
and agreed protocols. In addition to treatment and care interventions the level
3 HCA will also be expected to exercise some autonomy and make non-complex
decisions so as to assist in patient care evaluation and in broader service
development and quality assurance activities e.g. audit. They may also provide
supervision to more junior members of staff where appropriate. The HCA will be
accountable to all partners, practice managers and nurse managers.
