Job summary

Kingswell Surgery is a busy and friendly practice in Penistone, caring for approximately 5000 patients. We seek a motivated and skilled Healthcare Assistant to join our clinical team one day per week to assist with our community vasectomy service.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will have the ability to work with initiative and enthusiasm to deliver comprehensive and dedicated care to our patients. This role is specifically to assist the GP with our vasectomy service, which takes place at Roundhouse Medical Centre, Barnsley on Friday afternoons, so experience in minor surgery is required.

There may also be opportunities to cover occasional clinics at our surgery in Penistone, which will include duties such as venepuncture, cryotherapy, urinalysis, suture removal, BP recording, INR testing, ECGs, ear syringing, smoking cessation, teledermatology, foot checks and assisting with minor surgery, women's health clinics and chronic disease management.

About us

Our team currently includes 2 GP Partners, 2 salaried GPs, 2 Practice Nurse, 2 Healthcare Assistants, 2 Dispensers and an Administration team.

Job responsibilities

  • The purpose of the post is to assist the GPs and nursing team in the delivery of a safe and high quality primary care service for the Practice population.
  • The post holder will undertake delegated tasks and duties under direct or indirect supervision.
  • The post holder will work within clear parameters and line of accountability after appropriate training and assessment of competencies.
  • Job Summary:
  • Working under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered practitioner and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses

Vaccine/cold chain storage/emergency drugs, monitoring and recording

Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Assisting GPs with women's Health and Minor Surgery clinics

Teledermatology using the digital microscope and web camera to take images and make referrals on the Teledermatology web portal.

Ordering supplies of medical consumables

To carry out any other duties that the GPs feel are within your capabilities

Communication

Communicate clearly with patients/carers and relatives about the presenting condition and planned care.

Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Work collaboratively with all colleagues and outside agencies.

Awareness of data protection issues.
